The St. Dave's Story

Since 2008

In the spring of 2008 as a semi-retired, self-employed, middle aged couple, we decided that since moving off the farm and into Lindsay life had become a little boring. Although our only previous restaurant experience had been eating in them, we had always thought it would be a nice idea to run a small "Ma & Pa" Restaurant. After a short search we found what they were looking for tucked away in an industrial area in Lindsay. After 2 weeks of "training" from the previous owners we were on their own and on July 2, 2008 "St. Dave's Diner" (a name chosen from the location on St. David Street and the fact that the new owners name was David) was born.

...after two years... became obvious that this location was too small and a move was made to a larger location over on Highway 36. In collaboration with the landlord, the worn and tired 23 year old location of Peter’s Bun Stop was completely renovated and transformed into a clean, modern facility which opened December 14, 2011. Now a little less hidden away, the business continued to flourish.

...then tragedy stuck... the late night hours on May 3, 2016 when an electrical problem in the attic sparked a fire that destroyed the entire building.

...(new) location location location...

Not ready to settle into retirement quite yet the search was on for a new location. With an incredible outpouring of support that began both in person and on social media, it was not long before we were offered a new location, a former restaurant that had been sitting empty for close to a year, just south of town on Highway 35. We took this property over on May 15 and began to update and redecorate as quickly as possible and reopened at our current location on June 29, 2016 – just 57 days from the fire.

The décor is an updated version of the "old diner look", but strives to reflect the heritage of Lindsay in a variety of pictures of historic buildings in the area.

...our amazing community...

Thanks to several community fundraisers, our staff were well supported during the down time and now are all busier than ever serving more even more customers at our new location.

...over 2000 / week...

Although only open for Breakfast and Lunch, over 2000 people per week come through St. Dave’s doors for a meal. The Diner can seat up to 100 people at a time, there are several distinct areas and parts can be reserved for large groups or special functions. We are working on making it completely handicapped accessible. There is ample free parking both on our property and in the lot directly to the south of us.

...our menu...

The majority of the menu items are made from scratch with fresh local ingredients. Our in house Smoker offers up a great selection of award winning BBQ Items. Most famous for our great breakfasts "Eggs Benedict Arnold", "Breakfast Bowls", “Breakfast Clubhouses” and Scram Slams" have become trademark items. The "Breakfast Hash" is a household word thanks to customer referrals and a series of radio ads. Lunches are served up fast and hearty with award winning housemade soups, sandwiches on a variety of fresh local or baked in house breads, or full meals like our famous Hot Hamburger.

We are honoured to be recipients of the Lindsay & District Chamber’s 2011’s Entrepreneurial Excellence Award , 2013’s Restaurant Excellence Award and runner-up for Customer Service, 2015 Trip Advisor Excellence Award. St. Dave’s Customers have also proved its popularity by awarding numerous Lindsay Post Readers Choice Awards and/or Kawartha Lakes this Week Reader's Select Awards, including Best/Favourite Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch & Chef & Server, every year since the Diner opened.
